Ingredients :
Turnip green -1 bunch
Onion -1
Green chilli -2
Garlic -2 cloves
Oil -2 tbsp
Coriander powder -2 tsp
Chilli powder -pinch
Turmeric -pinch
Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds -1/2 tsp
Urad dal -1/2 tsp
Red chilli -2
Curry leaves -2
Hing -pinch
Salt to taste
Method :
Cut off the green leaves and stalks from the turnips and chop finely. Wash and boil in water for 10-15 minutes. Drain and keep aside. Discard water. | |
Peel and chop turnips into bite size pieces. | |
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard,urad and cumin seeds. When the seeds begin to splutter, add broken red chilli and stir for 10 seconds. | |
Add onion, garlic and stir fry until oil separate from the onion looks golden brown. | |
Add coriander and chilli powders and turmeric. Stir fry until oil separates again. | |
Add turnip pieces and stir-fry for a couple of minutes. | |
Now add soaked chana dal also. | |
Add boiled turnip leaves and salt, and mix. Cook covered on low heat, until tender. With fresh turnips, this takes only 10-15 minutes. | |
Taste and adjust salt and chillies. Serves with hot rice and roti too. |
